A year ago I stumbled upon the captivating open-source virtual modular synthesizer #vcvrack. I quickly immersed myself into a whole new level of musical exploration and the infinite sonic possibilities in the world of random self-generative modular synthesis and lo-fi ambient soundscapes. Soon, the idea to create a full album from all of this obsessive tinkering was born.⁣
⁣
For added production aesthetics and authenticity, I rummaged through my dad’s stash of old cassette tapes and found a Maxell XLII-S 60 from the early 80s in excellent condition. Every mix of the 10 tracks on the album has been recorded onto this very cassette through my trusty 4-track Tascam Portastudio 414 mkII for a healthy dose of that lovely crunchy and saturated lo-fi tape texture goodness and old school vibe!
